If you have received a bill for any council service you can pay in the way that suits you best.

By internet

You will need to have a copy of the bill and your payment card details. Payments can be made by Maestro, Solo, Visa Credit Card, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, Delta and MasterCard.

By direct debit

You can pay council tax by setting up a direct debit, the most convenient method of payment.

You can set up a council tax Direct Debit online, or contact the council tax section by phone or email and provide your bank account number, sort code and account name.

Choose to spread your payments over 12 months or the number of months remaining in the financial year and select the day in the month you want the payment to be debited; 7th, 15th, 21st or the last day of the month.

You can pay business rates, bid levies, council tax, housing benefit overpayments, housing rents, leaseholder service charge invoices, other sales invoices, traffic fines and other fixed penalty notices by selecting the automated service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you wish to pay for other services, such as community care invoices or commercial rents, or you need to speak to an operator you can do so Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm. Payments can be made by Maestro, Solo, Visa Credit Card, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, Delta and MasterCard.

In person at the post office

Payments can be made by cash, cheque, postal order, Maestro, Solo, Visa Credit Card, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, Delta and MasterCard.

If you’re paying your council tax, you must bring your barcoded letter or bill to make sure you’re not charged for making the payment.

By post

Payments can be made by cheque or postal order.

Do not send cash through the post. A receipt will be issued if you send a stamped addressed envelope with your payment.

By bank

If the invoice we have sent to you includes a bank giro credit form, you can use this to pay at any bank, although please note that banks may charge if you do not have an account with them.

Alternatively, you can use the details on the form to arrange payment through your own bank's telephone or internet banking service.
